Hello! And welcome :)

Before I continue to write, I would like to introduce myself. I am Judy. You may have seen me in and out of this restaurant. Some will remember me from when I was a young five year old munchkin running around the restaurant long long ago and others will have no idea who I am and often ask, "Are you new here?" Long story short, my parents, Mark and Susan, own this humble restaurant and I figured most people don't usually read this section so I have taken the liberty to write however I like and keep this pretty informal. I mean, hey, I feel like the vibe of our restaurant is pretty casual and informal as well.

Anyways, let's get personal.

It was a dream of my parents to be able to own their restaurant since moving to America. They both grew up in Fuzhou, China, and it was my father who first moved to the States and then my mother. It was quite a humble beginning and they both worked tirelessly in a very very small and cramped Chinese restaurant in a questionable area in Brooklyn, NY. Eventually they moved to Pennsylvania and began working at another restaurant. While working in Pennsylvania, my parents began looking for a place that they could hopefully call their own. My mother told me her main criteria was that they wanted somewhere quiet and not overly saturated with Asian restaurants. Pretty basic criteria. Somehow she was between here, Shenango Valley and Wisconsin. Eventually, she decided that Wisconsin would be too cold for us, (Peggy and I) so she nixed the idea of moving to Wisconsin. Peggy is my younger sister by the way, for those of you who don't know. Also, hi Pegs if you ever read this; also, please don't hate this section too much and delete all my hard precious eloquent work.

On March 19th, 1996, my parents were able to open their very own restaurant nestled in this little plaza. It was very hard and still is. Restaurant life ain't glamorous and is physically grueling. Each of my parents worked more than 70 hours a week on average. But this has ALWAY been their pride and joy. My mom often says that this restaurant is like her child; it was created from nothing and over the years, she has worked tirelessly to make sure that it succeeds and continues to grow. Say all you want and joke that we use cats and dogs (when we all know that chicken is cheaper and easier to obtain) but you have to admit that it's pretty impressive for two immigrants to open their very own business and for it to succeed. I read a study that said that within 10 years, 96% of businesses fail! That's pretty crazy!

I grew up watching my parents pour their heart and soul into this restaurant. I will be first to admit that this restaurant isn't perfect and I don't think it will ever be because that's unrealistic. But we are people who really do try our best to consistently make yummy food for everyone, day in and day out, relentlessly. It has been 20 years strong now and I'm proud to say that China Wok has become the restaurant that we all know and love. If you are new, I hope you will soon love it as much as we do :)

Sincerely, Judy
